GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- A new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location opened Friday morning in Green Bay. By early Friday afternoon, police said the new location was causing traffic delays. Cars lined up Friday as the fried chicken chain opened up on West Mason Street.
Green Bay Police said the drive-thru line of cars is extending onto West Mason Street, causing a significant traffic problem in the area. If you are not headed to the restaurant, you may be better off finding an alternate route to avoid congestion, police said.
"If you 'Love That Chicken at Popeye's' and are headed to the restaurant, please line up in the right lane of traffic on westbound W. Mason St. and then head onto the frontage road in front of Sound World and Living Hope Church," police instructed in a released statement.
Green Bay Police are hoping to divert the line onto Bentwood Dr. (the street before Goodwill) to avoid excessive traffic backups toward S. Military Ave.
Police expect there to be heavy traffic throughout the day and evening as well as all weekend.
