Mount Pleasant Police arrested two people for OWI Sunday morning after responding to an incident in which a vehicle crashed into the porch of a home.
Officers arrived at the home in the 4600 block of Spring St. around 2: 30 a.m. They "stabilized" the scene and later determined the driver of the vehicle to be impaired.
At the time of the accident, the driver was traveling northbound on Ohio St. at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle did not slow down after passing the sign, causing it to become airborne, hit a curb, strike a road sign, vault over a guardrail and eventually crash into a home.
After conducting field sobriety tests, officers arrested the man on charges of OWI 4th, failure to stop at a stop sign, inattentive driving and open intoxicants. He is being held at the Racine County Jail.
Further, while officers were tending to the accident, another driver drove past the scene, ignoring the squad cars and flares that were blocking the lane of traffic.
Officers then pursued that vehicle and noticed a strong smell of marijuana inside the car. They administered field sobriety tests on this driver, who was also determined to be impaired.
The driver was cited for OWI 1st and possession of THC.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department says they've noticed an increase in Drugged driving over the past couple months.
