MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the body pulled from the Menomonee River on April 12 as a employee with the Milwaukee County Transit System.

Jerry Wasielewski, 56, was last seen on Friday, March 20, leaving the MCTS administrative building near 17th and Fond du Lac.

The medical examiner says Wasielewski's body was found Sunday by a person riding their bike along the Hank Aaron Trail near 16th & Canal. The Milwaukee Fire Department responded and removed his body from the water.

"We're saddened to share the unfortunate news that our beloved employee, Jerry Wasielewski, has been confirmed as deceased by Milwaukee Police," the Milwaukee County Transit System wrote in a Facebook post. "We had been working closely with MPD and others in trying to find Jerry since he went missing. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and co-workers. Thank you for your support during this difficult time."

The preliminary cause of death has been ruled undetermined by the medical examiner. Police say they are investigating what happened.
