MILWAUKEE — Bird scooters have made their return to the streets of Milwaukee Wednesday morning.
Earlier this week, the Department of Public Works approved applications for scooters from Bird and Spin, joining Lime as scooter operators in Milwaukee. Spin scooters officially debuted in the Third Ward on Tuesday morning.

"We have long looked forward to partnering with Milwaukee to help bring transportation alternatives to residents," said Paul Steely White, Director of Policy Safety at Bird. "Communities throughout the city can benefit from having an affordable and environmentally friendly option for getting around without having to get in the car - and we're thrilled that Bird can now be one of those options."
Bird Scooters showed up unannounced in Milwaukee last June, but city leaders ruled that they were illegal and forced their removal with a lawsuit. The California-based company agreed to remove the scooters in an agreement with the city to bring them back once a regulatory framework was in place.
The addition of new scooters in Milwaukee is all a part of the city's Dockless Scooter Pilot Study. All scooter companies approved to participate in the city's pilot program are capped at 350 scooters each. They also have to distribute the scooters in prescribed geographic zones designed to keep them all from congregating in the downtown area.
