Two dogs stolen from a Bay View home have been reunited with their owner.

Patti Walczak said her two labs were taken by thieves who broke into her home Thursday night while she was at work. The dogs were found ditched 120 miles south in Illinois. Thankfully one of them was chipped, leading to a road trip that came with a lot of relief for Walczak. A moment she was hoping for, but not necessarily expecting.

"They're like my babies they're like my family," said Walczak.

Three days ago, Walczak said burglars broke into to her house through a side window.
"It was unlocked so they just slid it up; there was a handprint on the window," she said.

Walczak's laptop, TV and vacuum were stolen. The worst part was her 3-year-old chocolate lab, Copper, and 6-month-old silver lab, Chance, were gone too.

"Just panic, I was pretty hysterical," she said.

Walczak called police, filed a report and posted on social media pleading for help.

"I'm thinking did someone hurt them or where could they be?," she recalled.
After three days of worries, Walczak woke up to a message this morning from a microchip company saying police found Chance and Copper in Channahon, Illinois.

"I literally threw on clothes and ran out the door I was out of here," she said.

Walczak was able to reunite with her companions at a Channahon animal shelter. Both were safe and sound.

"I'm happy that they let them go,” she said. “That's the number one thing."

Police are still investigating this burglary. Walczak said they were able to find evidence, although no arrests have been made. She hopes that changes so this doesn't happen to someone else.
