Milwaukee, WI - The countdown to kickoff is almost over.
In about seven hours Green Bay will take on the Bears in the NFL's regular-season opener, making Thursday a big day for sports in Wisconsin as the Brewers take on the Cubs at Miller Park too.
“Well, I’m not liking Chicago so much right now,” Mickey Menges, a super sports fan, said.
The green and gold will meet the Chicago Bears on the gridiron Thursday night, and Menges said what better way to kick off the 100th NFL season than with a rivalry like this one.
“It’s pretty amazing actually. It’s what? The 199th game and the Packers are leading the series 97-95 in 6. So, it’s a big deal,” Menges said.
If you’ve ever watched the two teams play, you know when the Packers and Bears take the field emotions run high, and when fuel like a season opener is added to the fire, the intensity level goes up a notch for the storied rivals.
“Man, as a Bears fan, it’s emotional. It means so much,” Alex Ramos-Cortez said.
Alex Ramos-Cortez was born in Illinois but lives in Milwaukee. Regardless, his allegiance is to the Bears and he’s heading down to the Chicago Thursday because he said he’s never missed a game.
“67,000 people, it’s going to be hostile. I joked with them, I’m going to lose my voice tonight,” Ramos-Cortez said.
If you can’t make it to the windy city, but still want to be a part of the crowd —Kelly’s Bleachers has you covered. The bar will show both games starting with the Brewers followed by, hopefully, a Packers win.
“We’re expecting a lot of people to show up and cheer on the Wisconsin teams,” Anthony Luchini, owner of Kelly's Bleachers, said.
