Attorney Benjamin Crump has joined the attorney representing Joel Acevedo’s family in Milwaukee to seek justice against a suspended police officer.
Investigators say that 32-year-old Michael Mattioli is responsible for the death of Joel Acevedo and is now facing a charge of reckless homicide. He was off-duty when he got in a fight with Acevedo last month. Acevedo later died as a result.
“We must all be held accountable for our actions, and our team intends to make absolutely sure that those responsible for Joel Acevedo’s death answer for their actions,” said Crump in a statement.
Hundreds of supporters are expected to gather on the lawn of the Milwaukee County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Wednesday in support of the Acevedo family.
Benjamin Crump is known for his involvement in high-profile civil rights cases across the country, representing the families of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Tamir Rice among others.
The suspended Milwaukee police officer is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on June 24.
