MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee mainstay in Bay View is for sale.
The owners of At Random are ready to sell their tavern, after more than 50 years in business.
The owner told TODAY'S TMJ4 his business has been closed since May 19. He says he is now ready to sell because he is 87 years old and he 'Just can not do it anymore.'
At Random is best known for its vintage cocktails made with ice cream, in a dark atmosphere.
It got its name because the owner says he wanted it to be the first tavern you would see in the phone book.
He says it is too nice of a place to close down now.
Alderman Tony Zielinski says he remains cautious. He reminds us what happened when the business went on the market three years ago. A developer wanted to bulldoze the building, and the two properties they own next door, to create and apartment complex.
Zielinski says he blocked it from passing any zoning in the common council and will do it again.
"Our whole blueprint in Bayview has been to retain the quaint ambiance of our residential areas and that's what people want," said Alderman Zielinski.
Just the tavern is for sale right now, for $400,000. The owner tells us everything inside would be included. He's already received nearly a dozen calls since he put a for sale sign up on Monday.
