MILWAUKEE — Anthony Azenabor, the UW-Milwaukee professor accused of three counts of sexual assault, has been issued a bench warrant after failing to attend his bond hearing Monday, according to court records.

Azenabor was arrested in March after a graduate student of his at UW-Milwaukee accused him of sexual assault on UWM's campus in 2018. He was charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor count of sexual assault. The former student was assigned Azenabor as her program adviser in 2016.

Her hesitation to come forward sooner stemmed from the fear of being denied her doctorate, according to a criminal complaint issued earlier this year.

The UWM professor was ordered both of his passports surrendered in March. He is a dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria.

The Milwaukee Police Department says it will not comment on the possible whereabouts of the wanted subject.

Azenabor was scheduled for a jury trial for Aug. 19. Cash bond of $7,500 has been ordered forfeited by Judge Janet Protasiewicz.
