It’s hard to believe, but the holiday shopping season is right around the corner.
Recently, there have been stories of thieves stealing holiday packages from homes. Just last week, surveillance video captured a crook in action as he entered an unlocked front porch for a delivery on Milwaukee’s east side.
According to Insurancequotes.com, more than 20 million packages were reported stolen from homes last year. Luckily for Amazon customers, there's now a safe alternative just in time for the holiday season.
Nelson heard about Amazon Lockers and decided to give it a try at the Wauwatosa location.
"Simplicity and I guess it's just secure,” Nelson said. “You don't have to worry about someone taking a package."
The process starts once customers are done shopping. At checkout, customers can select the nearest Amazon Locker as their pickup location. Once the package is delivered, customers receive a text or email notification with a code. Customers then drive to the locker, type in their code and a locker will pop open with their package.
"First time I used it and it was pretty easy," said Nelson.
The locker delivery comes at no extra cost at nine locations across southeastern Wisconsin.
With all of the porch thieves Jennifer Reinke has heard about, she says these lockers could bring peace of mind.
"I think there are people who just drive around the neighborhood looking for packages that are unattended and drive up there and take them and you're out of luck."
