'[God] gave me an angel to love:' New Berlin couple's love story is 60 years in the making

NEW BERLIN — The making of Bill and Mitzi's Nowicki's love story started back in eighth grade. More than 60 years later, the New Berlin residents story is still being written.

Mitzi describes her husband as being a flirt when they first met.

"He was eyeing me and all the others too," she laughed.

However, it didn't take Bill long to fall madly in love with her.

"[God] gave me an angel to love," Bill said.

Things weren't always easy for the couple. They had a son diagnosed with leukemia. Mitzi, 78, has Alzheimer's, and Bill, 80, has Parkinson's.

"You have your good and your bad, you know. I mean I'd say most of the times it's good," Mitzi said.

Through it all, they learned that they have each other, their family, and love to see them through.

The experienced couple with 59 years of marriage under their belts (they celebrate their 60th anniversary in September) sat down with TMJ4 News to share their love story and give some of their own tips and tricks for a successful relationship to younger couples. Surprise, surprise, communication and compromising were at the top on their list.
