Milwaukee, WI - Monday was an emotional day in Milwaukee for so many people as two sisters, just 4 and 6-years-old, were laid to rest. Those little girls were hit by a car while they were just crossing the street. The driver took off, and there is one man in custody facing charges.
Inside Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where both the visitation and funeral were held, the 'Frozen' and unicorn balloons - something you might see at a child’s birthday party were used to celebrate and honor the young lives of 6-year-old A’Lisa and 4-year-old Amea Gee. The community came out in strong numbers to mourn their loss.
We estimate more than a hundred people attended the visitation, including Mayor Barrett who expressed his condolences to the family.
The two girls were killed in a hit-and-run near 22nd and Center. Court documents confirm A'Lisa and Amea were holding hands with their 10-year-old cousin when a car drove in the bike lane around stopped cars and struck the three of them before taking off.
“We just cannot sit back and say that stuff happens. We have to be involved, and if just coming here showing my presence makes a difference I want do that,” Roosevelt McKinney, a community member who attended the visitation said.
McKinney’s sentiments were expressed by so many others who also just wanted to be there to show the family they are loved and they are supported during this time of grief.
