FORT BLISS — About 150 Wisconsin Army National Guard troops are back on U.S. soil after deploying for over a year in the Middle East.
The 829th Engineer Company returned to Fort Bliss, Texas on Wednesday. The company's members hail from Spooner and Ashland, in northeastern Wisconsin.
The soldiers mobilized in October of last year and deployed across 21 bases in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. At those posts the Guards were either improving facilities or completing construction projects.
The troops will spend several weeks at Fort Bliss before they return to the Badger State.
The 924th Engineer Facilities Detachment remains deployed to Kuwait, and the 1967th Contracting Team continues its deployment in the Horn of Africa.
