SAUK COUNTY — A kitten is recovering after being found on a Sauk County highway.

The Sauk County Humane Society said the emaciated kitten, named Mikey, was found under someone's car on Dec. 31. The humane society told WISC-TV that an out-of-state couple found Mikey on an empty highway.

The kitten's eyes were "caked shut with green gunk" that was a result of an upper respiratory infection. His fur had been matted and leaves frozen to his skin. Mikey is estimated to be 10-weeks-old.

Mikey was sent to the VCA Veterinary Emergency Service and Veterinary Specialty Center in Middleton, where he was not well enough to return to the shelter.
