From top-notch brands, to cheaper drug-store products, the $48 million makeup industry has more than enough options, but which ones are worth it? Consumer Investigator Kristin Byrne enlisted some help to see if we can tell the difference.
Milwaukee area twins are becoming top-notch beauty testers. Each month, they've helped us see which products are worth a purchase. This time around, TODAY’S TMJ4 asked the sisters if they would splurge or save to create the same look. The bottom line, we wanted to know if a beauty product is more expensive, does that make it better?
We had one twin, Jeanine, try out a cheaper waterproof mascara (Maybelline New York Great Lash Waterproof Mascara, retailing for $5.76 on Amazon) and the other twin, Jayne, try out a more expensive waterproof mascara (Christian Dior Waterproof Mascara retailing at $37.99 on Amazon).
After using a misting spray on their face to see how waterproof each product is, each twin was satisfied with their mascaras, but Jayne, who tried out the Christian Dior brand, noticed a slight smudge under her eyes.
The sisters also each tried out a long-lasting lipstick. Jeanine tried out the less expensive brand, Covergirl Outlast All-Day Moisturizing Lip Color going for $7.59 on Amazon. Jayne, meanwhile, used the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna's Stunna Lip Paint Longwear, costing $31.85 on Amazon.
We had the sisters drink from a glass and then press their lips against a white piece of paper. Both ladies' lip color left a slight residue.

By using those less expensive beauty products, the savings add up to $56.
