MILWAUKEE — Democrat Deb Andraca has clinched a victory against longtime Republican incumbent Jim Ott in Wisconsin's State Assembly District 23 race.
Andraca is projected to have won 57 percent of the vote, compared to Ott's 43 percent.
I just got off the phone with my opponent who conceded graciously and wished me well. I sincerely thanked him for his call and for his many years of public service.

As we await the national results, let this be a reminder to all about how democracy is supposed to work.
Andraca is a Massachusetts native whose resume includes working as a elementary school teacher, a lobbyist with Environmental Law and Policy Center of the Midwest and as a press secretary in a congressional election campaign.
Andraca is projected to fill the seat held by Jim Ott since 2007. Ott is a former TV meteorologist, a former teacher at UW-Parkside and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
District 23 includes mostly Milwaukee County's North Shore communities.
