Security plans released for reimagined DNC

MILWAUKEE — The Democratic National Convention has seen a lot of changes due to the coronavirus pandemic and with these changes, comes an adjustment to the security perimeter.

Local law enforcement agencies released the new plans for the convention on Wednesday along with expected road closures.

Beginning Saturday at 6 p.m., the following roads will be closed:

  • W. Wells St., between N. 6th St. & Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.)
  • W. Wisconsin Ave., between N. 6th St. & Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.)
  • N. 6th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St
  • N. 5th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St
  • N. 4th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St
  • W. Michigan St., between Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.) & N. 5th St

These closures will be in effect until midday on Friday, August 21.

Additionally, the Kilbourn Tunnel will be closed Friday through August 21.

Commercial vehicles will be forced to go around these road closures as well as roads adjacent to them, including buses.
