WISCONSIN — Governor Tony Evers asked the legislature Friday to allow absentee ballots to be sent to all Wisconsin voters due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Gov. Evers made the announcement Friday in a video on his Facebook page. The move would be a major change from the current system, where individual voters must request an absentee ballot.
"My focus has been and will continue to be ensuring everyone has the opportunity to cast their ballot in the upcoming election," the governor said.

This request from the governor is an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in our community, as health experts say it would be nearly impossible to conduct normal in-person voting while practicing proper social distancing.
"This is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue—this is an issue of democracy," Gov. Evers says in the video. "I don’t care who gets the credit, I just want to make sure that everyone has the chance to vote this April. We don’t have time for politics—we have to get this done, folks."
