ELM GROVE — Eight sisters at School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province in Elm Grove have died from COVID-19 since Dec. 9, the organization announced Wednesday.

School Sisters of Notre Dame confirmed in a statement to TMJ4 News that the eight sisters passed from complications caused by the coronavirus. The organization also said they have confirmed COVID-19 cases among the 88 sisters living at Notre Dame of Elm Grove, but did not release the number of confirmed cases Wednesday.

Sisters have been following CDC guidelines to avoid the spread of the virus, including wearing masks, social distancing and regular handwashing, the organization says.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the sisters, their caregivers and families. We invite you to join us in prayer for all those affected by the pandemic," according to a statement from School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Public records confirmed the identities of the eight sisters who passed away in December in Elm Grove. Obituaries of sisters who have passed away at School Sisters of Notre Dame are listedon the organization's website.

The outbreak comes after six nuns at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Greenfield died from COVID-19 in less than a month.
