The lights on the bridges of the Fox River will be turned green Friday and Saturday to honor the Girl Scouts who lost their lives in a hit-and-run crash.
Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmidt told said that he wanted to something different to honor the Girl’s Scouts. He says someone from the girl scouts in Green Bay called and asked what the city can do to help.
Mayor Schmidt says changing the lights helps show the city of Green Bay cares about the incident. Mayor Schmidt says he wants to do what he can to help the community.
"Sure, we can send a sympathy card and we can offer our prayers, and we did that at city council,” said Schmidt. “But to take a structure, and light it in their honor, I think it shows even a deeper community concern. I think that is appropriate to do and we are happy to do it."
Mayor Schmidt will be at a ceremony honoring the Girl Scouts who lost their lives. Mayor Schmidt told me he plans to keep them green for the rest of Friday and Saturday.
They will go back to green and gold on Sunday for the Packers game.
