Candy is a highlight on Halloween, but a culprit for cavities. TODAY’S TMJ4 interviewed dentist, Dr. Donald Gundlach, with Dental Associates, asking how we can best prevent tooth decay.
1.) What is the best candy for our teeth?
"“The least harmful candy is probably something that will melt quickly that doesn't stay in contact with your teeth for a long time that has very low acid, things like milk chocolate bars."
2.) What's the worst candy for our teeth?
"Anything that's very sour, very acidic or very sticky that stays in contact with your teeth for a long period of time."
3.) How many times should we be brushing our teeth on the night we go trick or treating?
"At least twice. You want to brush as soon as you get home from trick or treating and also before you go to bed."
4.) How much sugar does the average trick or treater consume?
"They consume approximately three cups of sugar, which is a lot!"
