GLENDALE — Mequon Police deployed stop sticks to stop a wrong-way driver near Daphne Road on northbound I-43 Wednesday night. The driver drove at least five miles in the wrong direction.
A call came in just after 8:00 p.m. of a wrong way driver near the Ozaukee/Milwaukee County line who was driving southbound in the northbound lanes. DOT footage shows the driver traveling slowly in the snow-covered shoulder.
The driver continued upon hitting the stop sticks and a Milwaukee County Sheriff used his car to guide the driver to the median near Daphne Road.
The 90-year-old driver showed no signs of impairment and was turned over to family. His license had been canceled indefinitely in May of 2018.
No injuries were sustained. The driver was not cited.
