What you don't want to miss at German Fest 2019

MILWAUKEE — In its 38th year, Milwaukee's German Fest brings tradition and culture to the Henry Meier Festival Grounds this weekend. Find your lederhosen, grab a stein of your favorite Sprecher, nosh on some schnitzel and #GetYourDeutschOn!

Military Appreciation Day!

On Friday, active military, veterans and their immediate family members with proper I.D. get in free at all gates.

General admission to get into German Fest on Friday is just $3 all day! Children 12 and under are always free when accompanied by an adult.

14th Annual Dachshund Derby

Sunday at 1 p.m., see some of the city's cutest pups with tiny legs compete to be crowned "Champion of Dachshund Nation" as they compete in the 14th Annual Dachshund Derby. Racing heats are determined by age (and given the cutest names). See what heat your Dachshund would be a part of here.

Stihl Timbersports U.S. Championship 2019

Catch the fast-paced chopping and sawing action of the Stihl Timbersports U.S. Championship every day at German Fest. Men and women from all over the country will compete for the title of champion. Check out the schedule of events here.

Milwaukee United Handball Club

Handball is one of the hottest sports in Germany and Milwaukee has its own team! The team will be giving a skills demo and having a scrimmage Sunday 12 p.m.-3 p.m. in the Sports Area.

Learn to Play Sheepshead

Classes on how to play the classic Bavarian game are available all weekend at German Fest. If you're looking to learn some skills, see when the the rounds begin here. Registration is same day.

How to get there?

MCTS runs special Freeway Flyers to German Fest, picking up at four park-ride lots and dropping off at the mid-gate of Henry Maier Festival Park. Service runs approximately every 30 minutes.

Festival-goers can catch a Freeway Flyer from the following park-ride lots:

  • Brown Deer East - Brown Deer Road, west of I-43
  • College - College Avenue, at I-94, north and south lots
  • State Fair Park - I-94, S. 76th and W. Kearney Streets

Bus service to German Fest will operate the following hours:

  • Friday, July 26 - 2:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 27 - 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 28 - 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
