MILWAUKEE — It's going to smell amazing along the lakefront Sunday. The Big Pig BBQ Fest is bringing together 12 local BBQ restaurants for a cooking competition to raise money for The Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin program.

The event, sponsored by Swarmm, goes from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Henry Meier Festival Grounds and will feature live music, delicious eats and free motorcycle parking.

Highlighting some of the best barbecue restaurants in the state, organizers are looking to crown Milwaukee's BBQ King! Guests can vote from 12 different restaurants, including Char’d, Heavens Table BBQ, Iron Grate BBQ, Pig Tailz, Pop’s BBQ, Rollin Smoke BBQ, Saz’s State House Restaurant, Silver Spur, Smoke Shack, The Saucy Swine and Yummy Bones. Take a look at the menu beforehand to get your mouth watering.

Milwaukee staple Pritzlaff Meats will sponsor the 2019 Amateur BBQ Competition at the event.

The family-friendly event is $2 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. VIP tickets are $45 and include 10 BBQ samples, a beverage and early entry.

A portion of sales will go toward the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, which helps homeless and at-risk vets by providing basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter.
