HOUSTON -- Pewaukee native and NFL defensive superstar J.J. Watt may be sidelined for the rest of the 2016-17 season, according to a report from the NFL Network.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted the potentially devastating news Tuesday evening:

The face of the Houston Texans had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back earlier this summer and had only recorded 1.5 sacks through the first three games of the young season.

Watt has already earned massive amounts of praise and awards in his relatively short NFL career, winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award three separate times and appearing in the Pro Bowl four times.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allan exclusively interviewed Watt at his Wisconsin cabin retreat in July, where he talked about his injury and his Wisconsin roots.
