Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke isn't afraid to speak his mind on any subject -- even when it comes to football.
Clarke appeared on NRA TV this week, and told the host that he thinks the Dallas Cowboys are going to win Sunday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.
"Big time Cowboys fan, how about them Cowboys? Cowboys are gonna win. They match up better, they're physically stronger than the Green Bay Packers. It'll be a good game -- Cowboys are gonna win," Clarke said on the show.
The host expressed surprise at Clarke's stance, saying "Sheriff Clarke is not afraid of anything. He's got to run for re-election in Milwaukee and he's pulling for the Cowboys. We love you sheriff."
It didn't take long for Clarke's statement to turn political. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele -- traditionally no friend of Clarke's -- tweeted "The Cowboys are America's Team about as much as @SheriffClarke is Milwaukee's sheriff. #GoPackGo."

But it didn't long for Clarke to fire back on Twitter, tweeting "Sheriff surprised @ChrisAbeleMKE watches football.Seems like a game too violent and physical for him to watch.Badminton seems more like him."

So was Clarke pandering to the Dallas audience, seeing as NRA TV is produced in that city?
There may be another reason. Clarke's uncle, Franklin Clarke, played for the Cowboys in the 1960s.
His last game was the 1967 "Ice Bowl" against -- you guessed it -- the Green Bay Packers.
And perhaps that explains the real reason behind Sheriff Clarke's trademark cowboy hat.
Listen to Sheriff Clarke's remarks at the 9:41 mark.
