Packers place CB Sam Shields on injured reserve

GREEN BAY -- Packers cornerback Sam Shields has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

Shields suffered a concussion in the Packers' Week 1 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and hasn't seen the field since. He will be eligible to return in eight weeks.

Earlier Monday, the defensive back posted on his Instagram account that he would be out for those eight weeks, but hinted at a possible return late in the season:

I'm making great progress and hope to come back in 8 weeks and play this season. I will make a full recovery within that time frame #gopackgo #??
