MADISON -- The final hero of the Wisconsin Badgers' upset win over LSU earlier this month will not be kicking for UW for the rest of the season.
The Badgers announced Thursday that Rafael Gaglianone will miss the rest of 2016 after having back surgery.
He missed Saturday's win at Michigan State due to the back problem.
It improved Sunday, according to the university, but got worse in recent days.
"You're disappointed for Rafael because of all the work he's put in and how well he was playing," UW head coach Paul Chryst said in a team statement.
"From a football perspective, I've appreciated the way the other guys in that unit have responded this week."
Gaglianone's field goal in the final minutes pushed Wisconsin to a 16-14 win over 5th-ranked LSU at Lambeau Field. UW has been undefeated since then.
