Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was in Milwaukee Thursday to talk about more than basketball. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Muslim Student Association lead the charge to get the athlete to speak.
The star impressed the crowd at the Milwaukee Theatre when he talked about his life after basketball and being in the spotlight as an African-American Muslim. He encouraged students to be bridge builders and to know the facts.
"When people say bad things about Islam they need to engage," said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The author, actor, and philanthropist said the Muslims he met in Milwaukee during his time with the Bucks in the 70's helped him grow.
"Muslims can come here and thrive," said Abdul-Jabbar.
