As the Brewers head into the offseason, one of the most important tasks for the Miller Park staff is preserving the beautiful green grass during the harsh winter months.
With a farming background and a degree in horticulture, Brewers Director of Grounds Michael Boettcher puts a lot of pride in the field.
His staff is much smaller than the 50 employees during peak season, leaving a lot of work for the grounds crew on hand.
The combination of natural sunlight and grow lights will keep the turf looking green for several more weeks, but the crew will actually let the grass go dormant during the heart of winter, which is essential for prime spring growth.
After that, the plan is to bring the grass back to life starting March 1.
