GREEN BAY -- Video of a Green Bay police officer making an arrest has gone viral, racking up more than 70,000 views and prompting a response from the police department itself.
The video was taken by a neighbor as officer David Vaneren tried to take suspect Ramos Sanchez into custody. Witnesses are shown saying that Sanchez had a broken collarbone and was in pain as Vaneren put him into handcuffs. The video shows the two arguing.
The police department says the incident started shortly before 5:00 PM Wednesday as the officer tried to pull over the individual for speeding.
In a news conference, Green Bay Police chief Andrew Smith said the officer acted appropriately in making the arrest, despite the crowd that had gathered at the scene. Smith says he understands the frustration within the Hispanic community and offered to meet with them to discuss the arrest.
Sanchez was taken into custody and was charged with speeding and resisting arrest. He was released from jail on a $300 bond.
