Mary Conlon has been enhancing the lives of children at "Next Door" for 48 years.
"It's a real pleasure to help people to be a part of the solution to the problems that exist in our city." Conlon said.
She has watched Next Door blossom into a critical agency for Milwaukee families.
"..we grew from five people to over 300 paid staff, but equally important are our volunteers who come. I see it as a fabric that weaves together all types of textures, and threads and colors," Conlon said.
The staff at Next Door even named a room in Mary's honor.
"It's a real joy to find people finding so much pleasure like our volunteers reading with children, getting to know that child and having so much fun doing it," she said.
Mary Conlon leaves with pride and comfort knowing she's left behind an unwavering imprint on young lives. The best part?
"Everyday seeing how people working together and working hard and effectively can give opportunities to children that really need education,” she said. “And to know that's going to make a difference in their lives for the rest of their life."
On Saturday, Next Door holds it's Annual Walk for Children. It starts at 10 a.m. with registration at 9 a.m. at 2545 North 29th Street. Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams is the honorary chairman of the event.
