National polls show terrorism is a top concern for Republicans. Donald Trump does well with GOP voters who favor a ban on Muslims. But Ted Cruz tells me he would be the better commander in chief.
"Enough is enough, we need a commander in chief who will defeat the enemy."
Hours after the Brussels terrorist attacks - Ted Cruz called on law enforcement to "patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized." Others called it racial profiling.
Cruz: ISIS which has claimed responsibility for this attack, we will utterly destroy them.
Benson: So you don't think that's racial profiling?
Cruz: It is, directing at the terrorists.
Cruz compared his idea to what police do every day going after gang members.
"You work proactively with the community and you get the gang members off the street. That's what's been successful with gang activity, the same thing is true with dealing radical Islamic terrorism."
On Wednesday Speaker Paul Ryan questioned the state of politics and the tone of the presidential race. Cruz says Ryan wasn't talking about him.
"We need a president who bring us together and unites us, and combating radical Islamic terrorism - keeping this country safe - is something that brings all of us together and unites us."
