The Zyszkiewicz family is grieving the loss of their father Greg "Ziggy" Zyszkiewicz, who was shot and killed in Milwaukee working as a city inspector earlier this week.
The family hasn't slept much since their 64-year-old father was killed Wednesday.
"I'm having a child in June and he was supposed to be there," said daughter Heather Zyszkiewicz- Sharafinski through cries.
There are moments the family won't get with the man they call their backbone.
"Everything he did he did for us, he didn't do it for himself, he did it for us," said Morgan Zyszkiewicz.
While he's remembered as an inspector for the city, Ziggy woke up at 2 a.m. every morning to do a paper route to help his kids achieve their dreams and fund family vacations.
"He's the hardest working man I know and I'm not just saying that because he's my husband," said Ola Zyszkiewicz.
"He didn't want us to struggle ever," Heather said. "But, now we're just struggling so much and I just want him here to say it's okay."
Heart-wrenching moments turned light as the family recalled their favorite memories of a man who ran marathons, loved taking his family to Disney, although, the family said he didn't enjoy it himself. They tell TODAY'S TMJ4 Zyszkiewicz rarely finished a project, but always helped others with theirs.
"If he saw someone who had a need, he would do it and he never wanted recognition, he would just do it. That's just the kind of person he was," Ola said.
And he loved being “Pa” to his grandchildren.
"They loved everything about him- he was goofy. He would-it was annoying I thought- but he would only talk in Donald Duck's voice," Heather said.
Now, the annoying becomes endearing. The moments the family wishes they could have back.
"He snored- I want to hear that snore again," Heather said.
"I don't know what to do without him anymore. Like, how, how do we go on without a dad, without a husband," said Morgan Zyszkiewicz.
There is a fund set up for the family at U.S. Bank under Ola Zyszkiewicz's name.
