Witnesses awestruck after massive three-story structure fire

MILWAUKEE — Dwight Jackson stood in shock, staring at the mess of debris left behind from a fire on Martin Luther King Drive and Wright Street Friday morning.

The fire happened just before 4:30 a.m The roof collapsed in and Milwaukee firefighter battled the flames for hours. Jackson recently purchased the building next to where the fire started. He was planning on turning the building into his second location for his restaurant business, Pepper Pot Catering, but now his plans are up in the air.

“When I came and saw the trucks I was like wow! This is a real setback,” said Jackson.

Dwight hopes his building was spared but the Metro PCS and Hair Fantasy businesses next door were not. Both business are considered a total loss.

“It was a nice solid building, and it’s a lot of damage from what I can see right now,” said Jackson.

During the morning, loyal customers of Hair Fantasy stopped by to see the damage done to the salon.

“It was like a family in there. It’s just sad, look at it,” said client Crystal Jackson.

Jackson has been a customer there for years. She said the owner is kind, caring and always positive. Now, her heart breaks for the owner.

“It was a good business, very good business. To me when I go there, I felt like I was at home. It’s just so much love in there,” said Jackson.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
