North Fond du Lac police have arrested a student after the school district became aware of threatening messages on the Snapchat social media platform.
Police say the 15-year-old Fond du Lac boy sent messages indicating he was a new student at the school and warning others not to come to school on Monday.
"There's just some kids and teachers that gotta get what they deserve," one message allegedly stated.
The teen is being held in secure detention. North Fond du Lac police are recommending charges of making terrorist threats and unlawful use of computerized communication systems.
"While the boy told us that the message was sent to his friend as a prank, his actions created a significant disturbance and a very real fear amongst parents and teachers," Chief Darren Pautsch said in a news release.
Parents and students were notified of the early Monday arrest by a recorded phone call in addition to the district-wide email.
The post also prompted the school district to issue a letter to the community, which read in part:
"Because of our great culture and focus on safety, students, parents, staff and the NFDL PD were able to work together to ensure the safety of our kids. The District will continue to stay on top of this situation and do what is in the best interest of the safety of our students, staff and community."
