Garry Shandling, a renowned comedian, actor and writer, died Thursday according to TMZ. He was 66 years old.
TMZ reports that a 911 call was placed from Shandling's house Thursday morning, but did not disclose a cause of death.
Shandling got his start in Hollywood in the late '70s writing for "Sanford and Son" and "Welcome Back Kotter." He went on to create two shows of his own, "It's Garry Shandling's Show." on Showtime and "The Larry Sanders Show" on HBO, both of which helped transform the modern sitcom.
Shandling was also produced a number of stand-up specials, and had a recurring role in a number of Marvel comic book movies.
It doesn't appear as if Shandling was suffering from any illness. His last tweet, about the 2016 presidential race, came last week:
If I was Kanye I wouldn't wait for the GOP convention, I'd go make a deal with Mitt right now.
