WAUKESHA -- The case against an Oconomowoc woman accused of killing her husband is now underway.

Amy Van Wagner, 53, is charged with first degree intentional homicide and hiding her husband Stanley's corpse in May of 2015.

Tuesday morning got off to a rough start when potential jurors saw a news story about the case on television by accident in the jury pool room.

Her defense lawyer felt this tainted anyone who saw it.

"I know nobody intended this but I have never had a trial that started with an opening statement from the news media," the attorney said.

Each juror was brought in individually and questioned about what they saw.

Several were dismissed, including Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, because she had donated to the Waukesha County District Attorney's campaign in the past.
