WILMOT -- The new owner of Wilmot Mountain is investing $13 million in the Kenosha County ski resort.
Construction is underway to add new chairlifts, remodel the base lodge and restaurant and make improvements to its snow-making infrastructure.
Vail Resorts says it's the most significant capital improvement in the history of Wilmot Mountain. The ski resort was one of the first to master the ability to make snow in the Midwest. It began in 1952 with rubber hoses, aluminum pipes and sprinkler heads.
A lot has changed since then. Vail Resorts is adding more than four miles of new snowmaking pipe and 56 new snowmaking guns to allow Wilmot to open more terrain earlier in the season. The owners say the resort will be ready for this ski season.
