NEW BERLIN -- A New Berlin man helped immortalize a moment in American history by photographing the marriage of John F. Kennedy.
John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier September 12, 1953.
At the time, Jim Fischer had no clue who the Kennedy's were. Fischer says he did not remember the significance of that day until he saw JFK on television running for president years later.
The former photographer second class got the lucky assignment from the U.S. Navy. He fondly remembers our then-future President of the United States on his big day.
"His walk was distinguished looking and I thought, 'Well there's somebody who's going to go somewhere along the way,'" recalled Fischer.
Fischer tells us his biggest regret, was handing over the film before he could make copies of the photos himself.
The 84-year-old tells us his photos are likely up at the John F. Kennedy Library & Museum. He has not visited just yet.
