MILWAUKEE -- The Mitchell Park Domes may be in trouble, but a local non-profit group has launched a new GoFundMe page to try and save the beloved Milwaukee institution.
The Friends of the Domes is a private non-profit group formed in 1989 "whose purpose is to enhance projects and programs in Milwaukee's Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory - 'The Domes.'" They're managed by a volunteer board of director as well as paid staff.
As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign had raised just over $1,600 of a stated $100,000 goal.
Earlier this week, we learned the cost to potentially rebuild the Domes starts at $65 million. All three domes remain closed due to concerns over falling debris.
The county has been working to accommodate the more than 20 couples who had weddings planned at the Domes.
