WAUKESHA -- A naked man was arrested in Waukesha overnight.

Police said a resident reported a "suspicious person" near North Charles and College by Carroll University just before midnight Wednesday.

When an officer approached the 29-year-old man, he took off in a silver Volvo station wagon. Officers pursued the vehicle but eventually lost him as they approached Waukesha's downtown.

Police eventually caught up with the man at the corner of Barstow and St. Paul, where he had crashed after losing both front tires.

Officers followed on foot as the naked man jumped into the Fox River. After firefighters arrived on the scene with a rescue boat, they were eventually able to convince him to get out of the river, but the man was uncooperative.

"He lunged at officers, forcing them to utilize less lethal munitions, including a Taser in order to impede his assault and safely stabilize him," police said in a news release. This stabilization was necessary in order to get him under control and provide immediate medical treatment."

The man was on probation, police say. He faces potential charges of operating under the influence, eluding, resisting, prowling, lewd and lascivious behavior, and other traffic citations.
