RACINE COUNTY -- Amy Krenzke lost her life trying to save another, her beloved dog Jacks.
"She cherished that dog you know...she would put him in a stroller, a baby stroller," explained Pat Poisl, Krenzke's mother.
Amy was hanging out with a childhood friend early Tuesday morning when Jacks went missing. The two split up to look for the dog. Shortly after, Charlotte Rodriguez saw flashing lights.
"I looked down there and I wanted to think that Jacks caused an accident, but in my head I knew something happened to Amy," said Rodriguez, friend.
The Racine County Sheriff's Office believes a semi truck hit Amy on Highway 11 when she ran into the road to get her dog. Her mother thinks her daughter was on the side of the highway.
"All I want is the record straight, she didn't run in front of that truck," said Poisl.
Witnesses say they tried to get the driver's attention.
"Amy was in the road bent down, and she has one arm picking up the dog, and the other arm like this bending over," explained Rodriguez.
They're not blaming the driver, but friends and family are trying to understand if their tragedy could have had a different ending.
"She had a whole life to live yet. She's 43, she's not that old, and her son he's 18 and just graduated. It's like it's supposed to be a happy time in our lives," explained Poisl.
Charlotte found Jacks on her front porch earlier this afternoon without a scratch on him.
