Two Milwaukee Police officers shot and killed a man they say fired a gun Sunday night.

Officers were called to the 4400 block of 4400 block of N. 39th Street after receiving reports of a large fight in the street with armed individuals.

Authorities say when the officers arrived, a man with a gun was outside of a resident and had fired the weapon prior to the officers approaching him.

The officers shot and struck the man, according to Milwaukee Police. The officers, and later paramedics, performed life-saving measures but the suspect died at the scene.

Police say the 37-year-old victim was a convicted felon.

The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.

The two officers, a 24-year-old male with 2-1/2 years experience and a 26-year-old male with five years of experience were placed on administrative leave.

The Wauwatosa Police Department is conducting the investigation.
