MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee police officer was thrown from his motorcycle and hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries after a hit-and-run crash on Milwaukee's west side Thursday morning.

Police say two motorcycle officers were near N. 27th St. and W. Clybourn St. around 9:40 a.m. Thursday when they noticed a car traveling at a "high rate of speed" over the viaduct approaching W. St. Paul Ave. The people in that car were "acting suspiciously" as they spoke with people in another vehicle, a news release from police says.

When officers attempted to stop the first vehicle, the second car hit one of the officers, who was thrown from his motorcycle. That officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Both cars took off and are at large. The injured officer is a 54-year-old man with more than 15 years of service, the police department says.
