MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services employee was shot and killed while sitting inside his car Wednesday, police say.
The 33-year employee was in the area of N. 23rd St. and W. Cherry St. to perform a home inspection when he was shot, Chief Flynn said in a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
Police discovered the man's body when they were called to the scene around 2:00 p.m. by someone who reported a man slumped over the wheel of his car.
"He was very, very, very well-respected and liked in the department," Mayor Tom Barrett said of the DNS employee. "This is the first incident that's occurred like this since I have been mayor."
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner says one adult male was killed. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
