Anthony Brownlee was on his Milwaukee County Transit bus route Sunday afternoon when he saw a couple fighting in the Walgreens parking lot at 27th St. and National Ave.
“He had his hands around her neck, that's when I opened the door … and said, 'Hey man! Don't do that!'”
Brownlee knew he shouldn’t get off of the bus but felt he needed to do something. He said it was a natural reaction.
“You shouldn't be putting your hands on anybody, male or female,” said Brownlee.
He was able to defuse the situation by calming the man down. Brownlee said he should have actually reported the incident to police and followed protocol but instead gave the man a warning.
“I don’t want to see you get a domestic violence charge,” he said.
“He kind of thought about it and he went back around the car and she grabbed the baby and came on the bus,” said Brownlee.
Brownlee asked the woman if she wanted him to call police. He says she said no. The woman thanked him and exited the bus a few stops later, but not before Brownlee gave her one important piece of advice.
“Don't go back. Cause if they do it once they're going to do it again,” said Brownlee.
