The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office handed out honors to some of its finest.

The Awards Luncheon in downtown Milwaukee honored civilians as well as those in uniform who've put their lives aside to help others.

Deputy Kristine Camarillo who is just over a year into the job was among those honored.

"I helped someone on the highway who was in distress," she said. "I didn't want her to be struck by a vehicle which I think that was her intention."

The Sheriff's Office gave Deputy Camarillo a Letter of Commendation for her bravery in getting the woman to safety.

Also among those honored was Detective Jamie Arnold who, after seven months of diligent detective work, uncovered one man's scheme to steal vehicles at Mitchell International Airport and sell them on Craig's List.

"I believe we seized over $85,000 that we're hoping to get back to the victims," he said.

Deputy Camarillo said the awards ceremony means a lot, "because it reminds the community why we do service and why service is so important."

Detective Arnold credits teamwork, "Every award tonight will be shared with somebody who deserves it."
