A male high school dancer has filed a federal complaint about not being able to dance.
The Superior dancer Kaiden Johnson was barred from participating in a competition in Minnesota because the state bans boys from participating on dance teams.
Johnson along with a non-profit group filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. They are threatening to sue if the rule does not change.
“It's hard to get into their head here, maybe they really feel like they don't want boys dancing, and if that's their position, they'll have to justify it in court,” said Joshua Thompson with the Pacific League Foundation.
If the Department of Education agrees the rule is discriminatory it could strike down similar rules nationwide.
