MILWAUKEE -- A family is trying to come to grips with the killing of a man who was shot inside the north side tavern he owned on Milwaukee's north side Monday afternoon.
Mike Patton was killed at around 1:20 p.m. inside Mike's Place on the corner of 35th Street and Silver Spring Drive. The business hadn't opened yet when the crime occurred.
The victim's sister, Kenisha Patton, said the family spent some time together a few days ago at the bar.
"Everybody got along with him, everyone liked him ... he's just a good man," Kenisha Patton said. "It's unbearable right now, I can't even explain how I feel right now. That's my big brother."
The victim's mother, Wanda Patton, was grief stricken as she spoke with reporters at the scene.
"You can't walk by yourself ... have someone with you all the time, because these people out here robbing and they killing. They don't give a damn if you give them the money, they still gonna kill you, they still gonna kill you and why? For some crumbs? The drugs and the shooting and the killings, it's ridiculous, every week, twice a week. People are getting killed, it just don't make no sense," Wanda Patton said.
Family members say Patton -- a father and a grandfather -- was planning on moving out of Milwaukee soon with his fiancee.
"I don't know what you was doing, what you was looking for, just turn yourself in," Kenisha Patton said.
There are no suspects in custody for the crime.
